Bulldog Fans, As a coach, teacher, administrator and now athletic director, for the last 25 years at Green, I have witnessed the impact athletic programming can have on the future success of our student athletes. The Green Athletic Department values the partnership of our local businesses, and we are excited for the opportunity to strengthen those relationships moving forward. Our goal is to directly impact the experience of our student athletes and community by transforming the facilities of our Green Athletic Department. Over the next couple years, the area around Green Memorial Stadium will be the “Center of the Schools and the City.” With the construction of our new middle school, the City of Green Sports Complex, and the already existing Central Park, this area will undoubtedly be the main attraction in our community. We can think of no better partner than YOU to be a part of the corporate foundation of our athletic department, schools, and community. Throug

It figures that when it finally decided to rain for the first time since sometime this spring there was a game to be played. Green traveled to the lakeshore to take on Eastlake North. The Rangers had been up and down all season but had already played GlenOak and Lake close. They would not play Green close today. The Bulldogs led within 10 minutes and looked good money for more. Eastlake won a penalty shortly thereafter and appeared to have a lifeline back into the game. What Lake and GlenOak didn't have going for them, though, was the best keeper in the Federal League. Max Sitko saved the penalty, ran down the rebound, and sent the Bulldogs flying into the counterattack. 12 seconds later it was 2-0.Green never looked back. The team stayed focused enough to hang on to a clean sheet, but the story of the second half was Baki Elghrainey getting his first goal of a season that has been plagued by a knee injury and the effervescent Sam Matos making his varsity return after a massive knee inj

What a game. Hudson came into the game ranked fourth in the nation on MaxPreps and spent the first 20 minutes demonstrating exactly why. During that tour de force the Explorers took 12 shots and pulled out to a 2-0. On a scorching hot day for September it looked for all the world like a top five team in the nation and the top team in the state would add another win. Then a weird thing happened: Green hit back. The Bulldogs refused to be cowed by the onslaught and won a penalty that Owen Smythe duly and coolly converted. A free kick in a dangerous area suddenly led an equalizer when a speculative ball from Mason Shisler floated in at the back post. That set up a second half where Hudson held possession and Green sat low and hit on the counter. With nine minutes left the Explorers won a penalty, but Max Sitko, standing on his head all game, was more than level to the challenge and saved it. The next 480 seconds lasted an age, but when it was all over Green had gone toe to toe with the best

At some point, you have to take chances. Green's season long struggle to put the ball in the net finally came back to fully haunt them on Tuesday night in Plain Twp.The Bulldogs were hardly dominated in this game. They were in the ascendancy late in the first half and for large parts of the second. A tactical switch at the half had opened gaps in GlenOak and made space for GHS to get forward. They did, but shots on target were hard to come by.That mattered when GlenOak struck twice in quick succession late in the second half. Green finally answered the bell off a Ray Maynard header. It looked as if a lifeline was handed to the Bulldogs when the refs conferred after Giuseppe Spano was caught in the box with 41 seconds left, but an admittedly soft penalty wasn't on the cards.Ultimately, that's the risk you run when you can't put one away. Green emerges from this game chastened, but ready looking forward to a chance to stun everyone with a shot at #1 in the state Hudson on Saturday.

At some point Green is going to bang in a goal and get one of these games. 55% possession, 11 shots, and 72% pass completion for the game and an absolutely dominant second half were somewhat undone by the ball just not going into the back of the net.But that's the glass half empty way of looking at this one. After the game a media member for a local website was talking about Highland being the 17th ranked team in the nation. If that's the case and based on last night's game, that must make Green easily in the top ten. The Bulldogs were the better team from the first whistle until the final ten minutes where the Hornets bunkered down and just tried to survive. There was no doubt to anyone watching who deserved the win.Unfortunately, that's not always how life and soccer work. After the game Coach Brandon Good told the team he couldn't have asked for better execution of the gameplan or more effort. Soon the ball is going to start finding the back of the net. When it does Green is going t

The Backyard Brawl was exactly that on a scorching and buggy night in Lake. The Blue Streaks came with a ton of energy to defend their home field. It would be incumbent on Green to stay calm and maintain their composure to win the game.Ray Maynard steadied GHS nerves with a goal in the first half that the Bulldogs dominated. Green had 60% possession, put together over 150 successful passes and tried the keeper seven times but only managed the one goal from the flying Maynard as he arrived on the back post. The second half was a battle. Lake changed things up to re-balance their midfield. Green came under some pressure and was hanging on at times. It looked for all the world like Lake could break through, but Max Sitko and the back line held firm. It was the home team pushing for an equalizer that did them in. Their keeper played a ball but caught in no man's land when Owen Smythe nipped in to steal it. Smythe left a flailing center back in his wake before he banged in the goal that seal
