Sometimes it just isn't meant to be. Green took their first loss of the season tonight after battling against an excellent Jackson team. The first half ended scoreless with Jackson having the balance of play. It took less than 30 seconds for the Polar Bears to claim the lead in the second half and it looked as if their play to that point would begin to tell on the Bulldogs.
Green came off the mat, though. Max Sitko was brilliant in the goal and the team responded and dragged themselves back into the game, by the time Gavin Shawbell found Ray Maynard for a goal, Green was giving as good as they got. In the second half it was the home team who were the aggressors.
Unfortunately, the breaks didn't go Green's way. After contact in the box Jackson was awarded a penalty. Sitko was at full stretch to save initially but his effort to tip the ball on to the post was undone by the spin that carried into the bar, down, and just over the line. In a game between an established power and a team on the rise, that deflection was all that made the difference.
